I think that the reorganizing of the groups into something more hierachical (sp?) is a good idea. The creation of net.sci.* (lets keep the names as short as we can) and as Chuq suggested, we should regroup everything else that can be as well. This is also a good opportunity to generally clean up and nuke old groups such as net.wobegon (Who else agrees with Chuq?) The problem with all this is, as alice!alb pointed out, that old groups don't like to die. This seems to be the major problem with the proposed re-organization. Also, what do you do about all the .newsrcs out there that don't know about the changes? A minor problem, but it could be an annoyance. I think that if we find a way to stop dead groups from poping up again, we should reorganize the whole newsgroup structure - it sure needs it.
