[comp.lang.postscript] PostScript files from Mac

jv@mh.nl (Johan Vromans) (10/24/89)

Hai there,

When I create a PostScript file on Macintosh using the printer driver,
it usually needs a special prefix file (the LaserPrep) to be
downloaded before it can be printed on the LaserWriter. This is
normally done when initing the printer.

However, when I want this PostScript file to be printed on another
printer, or when I want to preview it using PostScript previewers,
there's no such thing as LaserPrep.

How can I create a PostScript filech is suitable for downloading to
non-LaserWriter printers? Does there exist something like a 'fake'
LaserPrep (or emulator) for this purpose?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Instead of using command-F when printing to create the PostScript
file, you should use command-K. The driver will create a PostScript
file which includes the LaserPrep. The disadvantage is that the file
will be about 40K longer.

 Johan:
I picked up this tip very recently: try using Command-K instead of
Command-F when you create the Postscript file on the Mac. Apparently
this will include the Laser Prep stuff needed to preview. Hope this
works for you. Good luck.
