I have a specific "for Postscript, what to do?" query. My setup is: <80386 PC 1Mb>---parallel---<HP LJ II 2.5Mb>---?serial?---<Sun SparcI, tba.> I would occasionally like to print in Postscript from either box [not at the same time !-)], switching mode on the front panel as needed. Since a software emulator or add-in board* on one machine might not help the other, I'm naturally looking at options specific to the printer. I know that HP's new PS cartridges won't work with the LJ II (why?). So that takes me to (1) Pacific Page: Would it work in the above situation? (2) A possible rub: My DOS application downloads 16 or more non-Adobe soft fonts. The Nov. 28 PC Magazine review gave the impression that Pac Page can only handle four. Is this so? (I haven't asked them yet.) (3) Is there another solution? I thought I read that the LJ II controller could be upgraded to that of the IID (or IIP), but the local HP dealer says no. *Could a PC board connected by video cable to the LJII do the trick? Over-arching question: is there anything I am missing with these plans? Replies greatly appreciated, and I will gladly summarize e-mailed responses. Kenneth W. It plugs into a PC, and then hooks into the back of the hp. The normal serial or paralell cable then hooks to the HP as well. printing to port lpt3 will get you POSTSCRIPT printing to port LPT1 will get you HP LASERJET II. It will only allow one machine to access the laser in POSTSCRIPT mode. Don Lancaster reports that you can hook a serial line up to the 9 pin port AND one up to the 25 pin port on a Laserwriter, and it will lock onto which ever port comes active first. He claims that you can hook 2 computers up to the printer this way, and either one can print to it. I have not tried it. His number can be found in THE COMPUTER SHOPPER. He is under Synergetics, Stafford Arizona. the number is something like 602-428-4073. He can tell you all about it, tell him Woody sent you.... Cheers, Woody
