[comp.lang.postscript] Adobe Type Manager info for programmers

seltz@adobe.COM (Scott Seltz) (01/23/90)

I have posted three Adobe Type Manager (ATM) related documents to several places. Some of the docs may come in more than one part.
Here's the info.
Adobe Type Manager related documents and programs:

Technical Tips for Macintosh Applications using Adobe Type Manager:
This document contains tips to help Macintosh applications and Mac print drivers work best with Adobe Type Manager on the Macintosh. The issues discussed include character widths, font bounding boxes, line leading and clipping considerations.

Advanced Type Capabilities using AdobeType Manager on the Macintosh:
This document describes direct interfaces to Adobe Type Manager on the Macintosh which allow for type capabilities beyond those normally available in the Macintosh QuickDraw environment. Applications can achieve type scaled to arbitrary sizes, non-uniform scaling in x and y, rotated and skewed type, and special capabilities for dealing with character metrics. Source code examples are listed in this document.

Adobe Type Manager Programmer's Disk:
These are two Think LightSpeed C program examples which use the advanced type capabilities described in the document Advanced Type Capabilities using AdobeType Manager on the Macintosh.

Where the files have been posted:

- sumex info-mac archives
- compuserve Adobe forum
- Adobe file server

How to retrieve the files from the Adobe file server:

The file server is a mail-response program. That means that you mail it a request, and it mails back the response.

The file server understands these commands: help, index, send, path. A command must be the first word on a line. More than one command can be sent in a message. The Subject: line is treated as a message line. Any line that does not begin with a command is ignored.
example:

To: ps-file-server@adobe.com
Subject: help

-Use the Subject "help" to learn the how to get a list of available files and programs. On the file-server, look for the prefix ATM_ for Adobe Type Manager related info.
