< But don't, unless you want to follow the many, many people that had the same
< idea and lost their shirts. Why? Well, once you're in production and find
< it isn't selling at all, you might go back to the enthusiastic MD and ask
< him why HE didn't buy one. The answer: he had invested so much time in Med
< school and since, learning what things sound like through hollow tubes, he
< is not about to start all over again! He meant it was great for NEW MDs,
< who learn it from the start. Of course, they are taught by older MDs, who
< know what things sound like through hollow tubes ...

One of the hot things in Digital Signal processing is taking old records from
greats like Caruruso and filtering out some of the negative effects of the
recording equipment used in those days. You wind up with some rather nice
sounding records. You should be able to process the signal from a microphone
and make it sound like it came through a hollow tube in the same manner. Just
what the doctor ordered! Plus you can add controls that let them change the
filter charcteristics to enhance certain sounds and a recording jack to
help document the case. Now you have something that meets all of their
expectations plus some additional value. If you go to the trouble of figuring
out why a product isn't selling then fix it.
