[comp.lang.postscript] Creating PostScript files on an IBM.

Does anyone know if it is possible to extract a postscript file of a
document that has been typed in WordPerfect 5.0 ( or maybe 5.1 )
I have looked all around the SHIFT-F7 area for some command that allows
you to save the postscript file. I have looked in all four printer disks
including DISK#12 which is a supplemental printer disk for any type of
device ( various postscript printers ) that may have additional features.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

P.S. (no pun intended) Are there any PC type programs that will allow you
to save the postscript file of your job? ----

There are two ways to do what you want (actually there are probably a million
but for the sake of this discussion there are two!).

The first and best way is to set up your WP5.1 printer to write to a file.
In printer setup (shift F7 S) highlight the printer you want to use
(PostScript) and hit E for edit. The section PORT (P) gets you a selection
list and the last one (O) is Other and will prompt you for a file name.

The other approach is to get a program like LPTX which you run before you start
WP and it captures EVERYTHING sent to the LPT port and puts it in a file.
Then after you print you exit WordPerfect and run LPTX to close the file and
presto. This approach is useful for application without print-to-file
ability but I don't recommend it for WP!

Yes, with WP5.0 to output a postscript file for your document you do:

Shift-F7	Go to the print menu
(S)elect	To select a printer. I use the Apple LaserWriter. This may
		require your supplemental disks.
(E)dit Edit the LaserWriter characteristics.
(P)ort Under port you can select com1... OR a file name. For
		example: OUTPUT.PS

At this point, every time you print a document, it overwrites the selected
output file. Note that the file does not start with %!.

Not directly, but then I don't use wordperfect. I'd assume that you could
print to a file, but don't relly know how. I do know, however, that there are
numerous routines for the PC that capture the output to the printer and write
it to disk. I have a couple of them. Nearly any good bbs worth it's salt
should have one. My usenet connection does not handle binary downloads
so well, but if you mail me a note, I'll see if there is some way to
arrange to get these out. I'd imagine that SIMTEL20 also has a routine
or two.
Cheers

Do shift-f7, and go into "Select Printer" and select a postscript
printer (many should be listed in your printer disks - Apple Laserwriter/
Laserwriter Plus/ NT/NTX etc etc. When it asks you to choose from
LPT1, COM1 etc. say "Other" and specify a filename for WP5.0 to store
it's output to.

Many programs in the PC world allow you to capture the output into a file;
sometimes the method is not well-documented. If you have a specific
question about some software, send me email.
