While reading the section in the red book on user defined fonts (pp 98), I noticed that they present two main catagories. The first being the type where an existing font is copied and then one or more entries are altered. The second being a completly new font definition. On the new definition they show the font type being defined as three. On the copy version, they make no reference to the font type entry. So my question is - when one creates a new font by copying an existing font, does the new font automatically get a font type of 3 or does it assume the fonttype from which it was copied? Along the same lines, the book states that all user defined fonts must have a buildchar entry. What happens to this requirement if I create a type 3 user font by copying a type 1 font?
