[comp.lang.postscript] SGML to PS

kgamble@nyevax.cas.orst.edu (Kevin_Gamble) (07/11/90)

Sorry about my last posting that lost the body. I'm not sure what happened.
Anyway, I'll try again.

I'm looking for a program that will read SGML tagged documents and convert
them to PS for output. The program would need to have some kind of "template"
for specifying which fonts, attributes, etc. to use for each tag. If anyone
can point me to a source for an SGML -> PS converter it would be greatly
appreciated. Commercial or PD, we don't care.

Thanks in advanve for any information.

Two companies to check out/with:

Arbortext - try sales@arbortext.com or help@arbortext.com
SoftQuad - yuri@sq.com

Both produce SGML document processing systems - which is what you are looking
for. Note that this is non-trivial software. ArborText uses TeX for
formatting, SoftQuad uses sqtroff, a troff enhancement.

ArborText has announced, but not yet delivered, arbitrary document type (DTD)
support - 4Q90, I think. SoftQuad I'm not sure of.

Not associated with either company.
