[comp.lang.postscript] PostScript veiwer for Suns...

tj@XN.LL.MIT.EDU (Thomas E. Jones) (07/19/90)

This may be old news for most of you, but I didn't know it,
so I'll share it with the few that don't.

There is a public domain postscript viewer/interpreter that
runs on Sun computers (and a few other Unix machines) under
x windows or sunview.

I'm surprised with how well it works. Typically, postscript
interpreters lack features such as half-tone imaging, etc.
This seems to work quite well. It uses crummy Hershey
fonts, but it gives a good represenation of the overall
layout of the page. It's not too fast, either. On a
Sun/3 280 with FPA it shows several postscript files I have
many times faster than any printer I've ever seen.

I found my copy through anonymous ftp of bu.edu, whichh
contains some speed enhancements from Barry Shein. If anyone
knows of a newer version, please let me know.
If you ftp to bu.edu, look in the pub/POSTSCRIPT directory,
or something like that.
