[comp.lang.postscript] Adobe Illustrator Post Processing Software

jonabbey@walt.cc.utexas.edu (Jonathan Abbey) (08/14/90)

Greetings all -- I'm working on a scientific plotting library which uses
Adobe Illustrator 2.0 compatible code for the graphics file format. I've
gotten rather tired of having to download the files to the macintosh each
time I want to check the results of my code, so I'm going ahead and crufting
a quick hack to envelope the library's A.I. code with the necessary postscript
to allow the LaserWriter to print out the file directly.

Related to this, I have two main questions. The first is to ask if anyone has
written a post-processor similar to that described in document PN LPS5007, the
A.I. document format specification (2.0). The main features of which included
the ability to insert procedure sets into the PS code, as well as support of
most of the PS document structuring conventions, 2.0. The second question
is to ask if anyone knows of a convenient way to encode several pages within
one A.I. compatible file. I know that Illustrator at least supports one
illustration spanning multiple pages; is this formalized in the file format
in some fashion? I'll take a look at the PostScript with the print to file
option, but I thought I'd go ahead and ask while I was here.

If no one has written such a filter, I'll probably go ahead and implement
one, although I don't know that I'll support all the functions described
in the A.I. document specs.

Thanks for any information, hints or leads.

Yours in PostScript,

Oops.. please reply to the previous post at broccol@csdfx8a.arlut.utexas.edu
or jonabbey@ccwf.cc.utexas.edu instead of the reply-to line.. the news software
here was good enough to combine the two, producing nonsense.

Thanks again.
