Adobe's new HPII Laserjet Postscript Cartridge has hit the streets (and at least one source is selling it for ~$250). Printer memory requirement is low -- about 1.5Mb minimum. However, I do have a question. The Adobe ad says for "Hewlett Packard Laserjet II (only)". Do I read this as meaning not for IIP's? If this is so, does anyone know if a version will be coming out for the IIP? As Adobe is also offering other fonts in other carts, I can also see the major drawback of having only ONE cartridge port in the IIP (although the OEMs could just add more ROM into the single cart).

Adobe is marketing the II postscript cartridge (~$250) HP is making a IIp/IId/III postscript cartridge (~$600) They were quite confident that Adobe was not about the come out with a cartridge to compete with the HP product. Opinion: the cartirdges are essentially the same and HP has set its price has high as possible while keeping the total Ps printer cost just under the price of a LWNT Question: The guy told me that you need 2MB ram (total) for 8.5x11 printing on a HPIII (ok). Then he told me that any ram over 2Mb would not be used at all (!) Can someone confirm/explain this to me?

The HP LJIII PostScript Cartridge User's Guide says that with the PS cartridge/2Mb upgrade card installed, more RAM than 3,072K in the printer "MAY enhance performance." (Recall that the III comes with 1Mb standard on board.) Take it for what it's worth, I guess. What he probably meant was that if you weren't using PostScript or doing full page graphics, the extended memory isn't necessary (and therefore would not be used). -- michael regoli mr@cica.cica.indiana.edu regoli@iubacs.BITNET ...rutgers!iuvax!cica!mr
