It occurs to me that if might be very useful if you could send the appropriate color commands to a monochrome PostScript device, and have them translated into patterns (rather like most graphics applications do when you want that 16 color bar graphic printed on your dot matrix). I would think it would be a relatively minor job to intercept the calls to generate various colors, and generate various combinations of cross-hatching, different densities of gray, etc. Or are the functions responsible for color so deeply buried that it isn't possible to redefine those operators? -- Clayton E.
