[comp.lang.postscript] 8 bit output from printer

hi,
   the output (communication-line) our laser printer gives
   for some reason changes somtimes into charecters thet
   their ascii code is 128 + the original ascii code
   for example i get '\240' instead of ' '.

   any ideas why this happins ???
   how should i fix this ????

   our operating system is :4.3 BSD on VAX/785
   and the printer is :  LN03R
