[comp.lang.postscript] Software reset question

ccc_ldo@waikato.ac.nz (Lawrence D'Oliveiro, Waikato University) (09/04/90)

As far as I recall, the standard sequence for forcing a PostScript
printer to reset itself is something like this:

0	% or whatever your printer password is
	serverdict begin exitserver
	systemdict /quit get exec

I think some earlier printers (LaserWriter Plus?) didn't need you
to get into "exitserver" mode; the last line was enough on its own.

However, just the other day I found a LaserWriter IINT that would *not*
reset with the above sequence. As soon as the "quit" had executed, it
put up the message

%%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%%

which is what you get if you execute the default "quit" operator
from userdict.

Can anybody tell me what could have gone wrong?
