The Sept. 1990 _Computer Shopper_ has a brief review of a PC-based PostScript interpreter called PreScript for hooking up to HP PCL- compatible laser printers. Pan Overseas Technologies, Corp. 11444 W. Olympic Blvd., Suite 1010 Los Angeles, CA 90064 (213) 312-9562 Suggested retail is $195. It sounds similar in operation to GoScript or UltraScript. It does include a preview on screen capability. It is supposedly fully Windows compatible. Comes with either the "standard" 13 or 35 LaserWriter fonts, depending on whether you get the basic or deluxe package. It has a hardware & software version in addition to the software only version. The w/hardware version is for HP LJ II's and from what I got from the review, it sounds like this version will allow you to do full- page graphic output even if you only have 512K in the LJ II. The hardware consists of a card for your computer, a card for the LJ II, and the cable to connect them. Requirements for the PC were listed as a '286 or higher, 2MB or more of extended memory, 2.5 MB of disk space, DOS 3.1 or higer, and CGA, EGA or VGA graphics for the preview. The review is from a freelance writer and doesn't include a lot of technical information. Has anyone tried this product? Brian Dall dall@plains.NoDak.edu
