[comp.lang.postscript] Summary: Looking for an postscript interpreter

After getting some infos to the subject mentioned above I summarize
it up:

>I have used GoScript for such purposes - at swap-meets and computer
>shows, I have seen it for under $80 with 14 fonts...works great on
>an Epson (though I use it at home on my DeskJET). There is a new
>version that supports only *one* specific printer - you pick the one.
>If you are using MS Windows, check out UltraScript, as it intercepts
>the PS code, filters it and outputs printerspecific data streams.

                             Introduction

PostScript Magic is a valuable tool that lets you achieve the power
and elegance of PostScript printing on your non-PostScript Laser,
Ink-jet or dot matrix printer. Most leading word processors, graphics
and desktop publishing programs available for the IBM PC will create
PostScript language print files. PostScript Magic produces publication
quality output from these print files.

...

    What is PostScript Magic

PostScript Magic is a PostScript language interpreter. It is 100%
compatible with PostScript ROM version 47.0A as installed on a
standard Apple LaserWriter Plus. The benefit of a software based
PostScript interpreter is two-fold. You can take advantage of it on
any printer connected to your computer. And as the PostScript language
adds new operators, a software upgrade is much less costly than a
    hardware upgrade.

PostScript Magic is the easiest and least expensive method for adding
high quality fonts to your printer. You can print all thirty-five
fonts at any point size or spatial orientation. PostScript Magic fonts
do not need to be downloaded. No extra memory is required by your
printer (though laser printers generally require at least 1 MB of
memory to print a full-page of 300 dpi graphics). Select a font within
your application then print with PostScript Magic. Your document will
print with the font you selected. Using add on fonts couldn't be any
    easier.

You can use PostScript Magic to typeset documents, produce logos,
print letters and other business forms. A dot-matrix printer produces
much better looking output from PostScript files than it ever did with
bit-mapped printouts. You can also use PostScript Magic as a tool for
proofing documents that will be typeset through a service bureau.
Draft copies produced on a dot-matrix printer with PostScript Magic
serve as accurate representations of the final output achieved by a
Linotronic typesetter. The resolution will be lower on the draft copy
but the positioning of the elements on the page will be the same for
both copies. This is the advantage gained by using a page description
language. Without the unifying standard of PostScript, two different
printers would likely generate very disimiliar copies of the same
    file.

    PostScript Magic Features

PostScript Magic (fully registered) includes thirty-five scalable,
outline fonts. These include: Courier, Helvetica, Palatino,
Avant-Garde, Bookman, Helvetica Narrow, New Century Schoolbook,
Times, Symbol, Zapf Chancery, and Zapf Dingbats. You will find all
of these fonts to be of the highest quality and all are
width-compatible with those of the Apple LaserWriter Plus.

PostScript Magic can unleash the full potential of any program that
prints to PostScript printers. It will print the included typefaces in
any point size, in portrait or landscape orientation, rotated,
outlined, scaled, skewed, layered or enhanced with other special
effects. However, your application program may not be able to take
advantage of all the fonts and font handling capabilities of
PostScript Magic. PostScript Magic can not give your programs
    capabilities they do not have.

In addition to text, PostScript Magic gives you full control over
graphic elements. You now have access to the high-quality clip art
stored in EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) format. PostScript program
files can also produce stunning graphics. PostScript images are much
sharper and true to their shapes than ordinary bit-map images. In
PostScript a curve is round and a diagonal line is smooth.

PostScript Magic is fast. While PostScript gains its power through
complex computations the graphic algorithms in this program have been
highly optimized for speed. In addition, PostScript Magic incorporates
highly sophisticated memory management features such as protected mode
    operation and dynamic memory paging.

PostScript Magic supports Microsoft compatible mice. You don't have to
stop using your mouse when you leave your graphics or page makeup
    program.

    Operating Requirements

PostScript Magic runs in the Protected Mode of the Intel 80286/386
chip family. To run PostScript Magic, your PC or compatible must meet
    these minimum requirements:

An IBM compatible system with either a 80286 or 80386 processor

         640 K RAM (1MB is suggested minimum)

         4 MB hard disk space

PC/MS DOS version 3.1 or later

A printer supported by PostScript Magic:
              Canon BJ-130
              Epson FX
              Epson LX
              Epson LQ
              HP Deskjet
              HP Laserjet
              HP Laserjet IIP
              HP Paintjet
              IBM Graphics
              IBM Proprinter
              NEC Pinwriter
Or a printer with one of these emulation modes:
              Epson FX
              Epson LX
              Epson LQ
              HP Laserjet (PCL)
              IBM Graphics
              IBM Proprinter

    NOTE

We will make every effort to provide drivers for other printers when
    requested.
