[comp.lang.postscript] Need Sun based PostScript to Imagen 2308

logajan@ns.network.com (John Logajan) (11/07/90)

Anyone know of a reasonable cost Sun (unix) based PostScript to
Imagen 2308 laser printer convertor/emulator?

Thanks,

PostScript is PostScript. There isn't a Sun based Unix PostScript. So,
what you are really asking for is for a PostScript to Imagen 2308 conversion
program.

Ouch--that hurts. (Maybe I should go tell our marketing group they
didn't make enough noise.) Oh, well, here goes:

Sun recently announced a product called NeWSprint; it's a PostScript
rip that runs on a Sun (SPARC) host. Out-of-the-box, it supports HPII
series printers, SEIKO 5504/5514 color thermal wax printers, and the
SPARCprinter (a 300/400 dpi, 12ppm b&w laser printer). It was
designed with the idea of making it easy to interface to a variety of
different printers (essentially, any printer that accepts bitmap data
as input). NeWSprint comes with a developer's kit, and source code
for driving the printers I mentioned above is included with the
product, to make the job of interfacing to your printer easier.

I've already suggested it to John as a possible solution to his
problem. And now I'm going to shut up, because I feel like I've
overstepped my bounds. (I'm a software engineer, not a marketing
type, and this is a technical newsgroup....) Apologies to anyone who
might have been offended.
