Blue sky research in Portland, oregon makes a version of TeX/LaTex for the macintosh called Textures which has been extended to include postscript fonts, and also eps illustrations, etc. (sorry for the run-on sentence..) You can do things like make illustrations in macdraw, illustrator, or pure postscript and include them. It also has (very nice!) on-screen preview so you don't have to run to the printer while debugging your paper. I've written several papers with it and am basically pleased, given some reservations about TeX itself. Also i noticed that the revised Common Lisp Manual (Steele) (1000+ pages, multiple indices, etc.) was produced with this product. Several years ago their number was 800/622/8398 and 503 222 9571 john lewis @nyit computer graphics lab

I received an ad from them in the mail - they now have PostScript versions of the TeX fonts. I didn't take up the offer though - a bit out of my price range: $345 (or $195 educational). In my opinion, they should be bundling the fonts with the program, rather than charging this huge price for them. Having good scalable versions of the Computer Modern fonts should vastly increase the usefulness of this product (especially the quality of the previewer - not particularly readable with bitmapped fonts). -- Philip Machanick philip@pescadero.stanford.edu
