[comp.lang.postscript] PageMaker, PostScript and Me

zoetrop@ucscb.ucsc.edu (Devan zoetrope MacFarlane) (12/22/90)

Continuing in the grand adventure of trying to generate PostScript code that
can be posted, I have combined PostScript images onto a single page with
PageMaker 4.0 (on a Mac). I've uploaded these files, and am now getting
letters from around the world that say "My printer blinks at me for a
minute, then stops. No print, no error, no nothing."

So then, When I generated the PostScript from PageMaker I told PM not to
include Aldus Prep. When generating PostScript, does PageMaker use Aldus
PostScript commands that a printer won't know what do do with if Aldus Prep
isn't included in the file?

Again and as usual, any help is more than appreciated ...

Well, yes. Basically, when you ask PM *not* to include the Aldus Prep,
it goes on using the AldusPrep commands, but doesn't include the AP
(AldusPrep) code. The idea in doing that is that if you send many
files from PM to a laser printer, it doesn't need the AP code every
time, only the first time after startup. So, the first time after
startup, you include the AP code, and the other times, you ask for it
not to be included.
In your case, where you want to post printable PS code, you should
treat it as if it is the first time after startup, i.e. you *SHOULD*
include the AP code.
Hope this is of any help, Reuven.
