[comp.lang.postscript] Help: native adobe character names wanted

cthomas@f.adelaide.edu.au (01/29/91)

Hi

Can any one help please?

I use Microsoft Word version 5 on an MSDOS system and use a
Postscript printer. My postscript printer driver supports all
the fonts I need, except that the printable characters from
the high ascii set do not mirror those of the IBM character
set. This causes a great deal of hassle for many of the
computer illiterate users in my department.

One way to solve the problem is to modify the fonts so that
they do indeed mirror the printable set as closely as is possible
- a big job. Another might be to load a character set into our IBM
compatibles so that the screen characters mirror the printable
sets - more work.

My ideal solution is to change the standard Adobe characters
assigned via the printer driver initialization file
(postscript.ini in my case). I have fiddled with this file
and found that indeed my approach can work.

My problem is that I do not have access to the standard Adobe
postscript character names (they are apparently listed in the
Postscript Language reference Manual). Can anyone please send
by email or FAX a list of these character names. If I have
used the incorrect terminology for these codes I have also
posted part of my postscript.ini file to illustrate the sort
of characters I mean. I have special interest in the greek
characters.

My email address is cthomas@f.adelaide.edu.au
My FAX is 61.8.224 0927

Thanks in advance
