Does anyone know of a way to output postcript on a Versatec 7444 plotter? I doubt I'll find anything free, so vendor leads (and responses) are welcome. Basically, I'm looking for a postscript RIP for a Versatec 7444. Second choice would be host-based software that does the same thing (any host, if it isn't VAX/VMS we may buy one if it is the best solution). We need the full 44 inch width, with maximum length of at least 86 inches. Things not to tell me: 1) write a driver for ghostscript (an option, but I'd prefer something already done, even if I have to pay for it) 2) CAI (or Freedom of the Press). I checked. They don't and won't support the 7444. They support the 8836, which is the same interface (i.e. it's interface compatible to the 7436), but the width is wrong (36 inch vs. 44 inch) and they aren't interested in supporting a wider version. I didn't know the best group to ask this. Sorry about the cross-post. I've directed followups to comp.periphs, but would prefer an answer by email. I will of course honor any "tell me too" requests, and will post a summary to comp.periphs if I get any answers that actually pan out. While I greatly prefer postscript, I'd also be interested in other solutions that give me similar capability (i.e. monochrome text and graphics using widely available outline based fonts), but only if I can't get a postscript solution. -- Terry Poot <tp@mccall.com> The McCall Pattern Company (uucp: ...!rutgers!ksuvax1!mccall!tp) 615 McCall Road (800)255-2762, in KS (913)776-4041 Manhattan, KS 66502, USA
