When net.bio was proposed, the suggestion was that it was for biological research, among other things. However, people immediately said this was a place for creationism, etc. This was exactly what I for one did not want. I would submit that now no one knows what this group is for. If it is for legitimate discussion of biology and is announced as such then I suspect some of us would use it. If it is for rantings and ravings of creationists and their oponents then I'll continue to ignore it. I would submit that given a definition which does not try to combine emotional argument issues with scientific issues, it would be used. As it is, neither group uses it. It seems to me that net.bio is wide open for whomever wants to take it over. If you think that it is an appropriate forum for discussion between researchers in the biological sciences, then use it for that. You are bound to get the uneducated posting stupid questions and making fallacious statements. That's part of the turf. Net.math gets the "proofs" that 0=1, net.physics gets a lot of fluff about how thermostats work, and net.philosophy gets questions like "are all paths equal". So what? If you want to share your expertise, and have the time, then maybe you can straighten us out. Else just ignore the trash and get on with the substance. If you don't use it for serious discussion you can bet that the creationists will use it. If this happens, I for one will unsubscribe and I will quit defending it against the efforts of the newsgroup assassins who want to do it in. <-- zot! You know, if less space was taken up complaining about how little net.bio was used and more was taken up using it, maybe you wouldn't have a problem... "Who are these people?" Asko Kassinen (y4179)
