[comp.lang.postscript] PostScript cartridge survey

seeba@nas.nasa.gov (Thomas D. Seeba) (04/26/91)

I have a Hewlett-Packard Laser Jet III printer, and have decided to
purchase a PostScript cartridge for it. Several companies have
versions on the market, and I have heard pros and cons concerning each
on the net. Having seen comments, but no real head-to-head comparison
of each of these products, I am soliciting comments on the commercial
PS cartridges available for HP Laser Jet II and IIIs and will post a
summary of the results of this survey. If you are using such an item,
I would like to hear from you by e-mail. The following information is
desired:

1.) Which of the available cartridges are you using:
a.) Adobe PostScript (for HP-LJ II)
b.) Hewlett-Packard PostScript (genuine Adobe, for HP-LJ IIP & III)
c.) Jet Page from Jetware (a PostScript clone)
d.) Pacific Page from Pacific Data Products (Pacific Page P-E for
HP-LJ IIP & III) (another PostScript clone)
      e.) Other?

2.) What version of PostScript is this product (or which version does it
emulate). How faithful is it to the PostScript specification?

3.) Have you found any bugs or compatibility problems? If known, what
features does it have that competing products do not?

4.) Are you satisfied with its performance? Why (not)?
Is it fast enough to suit you? Or excrutiatingly slow?
Would you buy this product again?

5.) Any exceptional price information about this product, or dealers
    that handle it.
