. There are some Hebrew fonts in Type 1 available commercially. I have seen catalogs from two sources: Davka Corporation Kabbalah Software 7074 N. Western 8 Price Drive Chicago, IL 60645 Edison, NJ 08817 1-800-621-8227 908 / 572-0891 Davka lists 48 Type 1 fonts for Mac; the catalog says IBM versions, for use with Windows, will be available "shortly." When I called to verify this, I was told they're waiting for the next version of Windows due to problems getting the fonts to work with Win3.0. Kabbalah lists 6 fonts, available in Type 1 format compatible with ATM and Windows applications, also available in LaserJet II format. Kabbalah claims their fonts have been checked out with most of the standard Windows packages, and strongly recommends the use of ATM. Right-to-left insertion does not seem to be a problem, although word wrap may be, unless the application has sufficient macro capability to allow construction of a macro for the purpose. The fonts are in various styles; some are ornamental, some remind me of Israeli tabloid headlines (crude and blocky), some are suitable for general text and correspondence. Both outfits also carry stand-alone Hebrew word-processing packages for IBM and Mac systems (Davka has more Mac programs), as well as the usual games and educationals. This is, of course, not intended as a commercial promotion - I have no connection with either company, I'm just sharing (hopefully) useful information, so don't bother me with flames. dhf@linus.mitre.org
