[comp.lang.postscript] PS printers that are not really PS ...

leoh@hardy.hdw.csd.harris.com (Leo Hinds) (06/27/91)

I was looking for a low cost PS printer and have been mentally going through
many of the debates recently posted (of which I did not keep a copy ... can
anybody mail me ?) and ran across an ad in PC-Magazine (July 91 issue- page
201) for a Abaton LaserScript LX a "PS compatible printer".

When queried what that really was, they said that it was a "Microsoft BAUER"
PS compatible "language" that was "fully compatible" with type1 & type3
fonts ... something along the lines of the TrueImage stuff ... but not really
(I am as confused at it sounds) .... anybody know what this beast is?

anyone have any thoughts on this printer?

My experiences with Imagen's @$%^$%^&$#% UltraScript have caused me to not
even consider any printer that doesn't have real Adobe PostScript.
