Our university is about to buy a PostScript imagesetter. We have narrowed the choice down to 2 imagesetters: Compugraphic 9400 and a Varityper 4200/5300. Has anyone had any experience with either of these two imagesetters? Problems? Anything that might be useful? As far as I can see the 2 machines stack up like this (ignoring the stuff that is identical between the 2 machines---resolution, etc.): Compugraphic: Varityper Wider carriage (> A3 for More expandable crop/registration marks) Better name for typesetting gear Disk cheaper (SCSI) Page buffering disk separate (no need to re-rip page if something goes wrong) Of course there are other factors involved such as reliability, servicability, etc., and in this case also include trading in old gear. Any opinions on the above machines? -- Graeme McKinstry, graeme@otago.ac.nz Computing Services Centre, University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand. -- Graeme McKinstry, graeme@otago.ac.nz Computing Services Centre, University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand.
