Does anyone know how fast the FasTransfer (digital cassette) mass storage device is on the new Coleco ADAM? Apparently, you get a lot for your money -- $600 buys: 1. Really nice looking keyboard 2. 80K RAM expandable to 144K 3. Z80 CPU 4. 10 cps daisy wheel printer! 5. Game paddles 6. Basic editor and game (optional software: logo, macro assembler, some database, educational, more games... 7. 500K / digital cassette - "will support CP/M" 8. 36 column display (optionally expandable to 80) It looks ok (for a "home computer")

Does anyone have any opinions or comments regarding the ADAM? I currently own a 32K TRS CoCo 1 and am considering replacing it with the ADAM. What's the story on it? Is it really as prone to problems as rumored or is that just bad press? Larry Smith ITT Programming Stratford, Ct.

I am the (un)fortunate owner of a Coleco ADAM. It was purchase as an Xmas present for the kids because of price, completeness and compatability with Applesoft BASIC which they use at school. It serves these purposes very well, but I was looking forward to the planned release of a modem and CPM compatable disk drive. I am not against doing these myself but so far have had no luck finding any technical information. Does anyone know a source for schematics and/or documentation on the internal micro-code? And at any time they could revoke the license.} I think there were (are?) at least two reasons for this: 1. To hogg as much of the software market as they could. 2. To protect their video game's internals too - since it must be a subset of the whole Adam. They didn't learn from Texas Instr. - - - - - - - - - - .ps .000001 (my opinions only)

Two people in this office have the ADAM computer and offer these comments: I am extremely sympathetic of your frustration over the lack of ADAM information with "meat". I (they who wrote this) am a professional systems programmer and it's driving me crazy ! Alternative: I know of two (2) users groups (1-California, 1-New York). I personally have tried to contact the New York group, but have yet to hear from them. I would have to research the address again, if a response is sent. Paul Bart via dsdc-sdt2@gunter.adam

Hi! I recently acquired a Coleco ADAM. Could anyone tell me where I can get blank tapes, printer ribbons, software, etc., for it? Preferably mail order or in Western Massachusetts. Thanks! Please reply to me directly as I don't subscribe to Info-Micro. Matt Kimmel, mek%UMass.BITNET@wiscvm.ARPA
