I am looking at lining up a few interested people to help with the initial testing of a VERY new Multitalk multi-user conferencing program. Some of you may remember,(then again, some may not), that I uploaded Mtalk 1.5 to the net around christmas of last year. I will be the first to agree, that it was very buggy and badly written, and did not fulfill my envisioning of the Mtalk that I had WISHED to produce. I am looking towards Jan 1st as the date for the release of this new version which will allows any user with the client Mtalk program to connect to any Mtalk server running ANYWHERE which has Internet access. I will also provide an option to configure a server to remain local to its machine if the Mtalk Administrator wishes. If anyone remembers the old Mtalk, it had a very recreational twist to it,(i.e. Multitalk Talk Parlour), which the new version goes a step beyond. The server will be able to be totally configured, which means that no two Mtalk server's need be the same, which the Administrator can decide on when he/she compiles it. Plans are for the programs to be portable to SunOS, 4.xBSD, VAX running Ultrix, Pyramid OSx, and Cray UNICOS when the finals are distributed to the net. I will need a few volunteers to help with the Alpha, and Beta test modes which will start around Nov. 15. If you will be interested, let me know at the following e-mail address, and I will get back to you in the near future. If selected, these people will receive the 'client' programs in order to test out the `server` program which will be running here at Cray. With all this talk of Multi-user chat programs, I just thought some of you needed to know what was coming in the near future from the originator of `Mtalk'.
