[net.micro] PostScript on micros

remym@tekig5.UUCP (10/09/86)

About three weeks ago I posted an article asking about PostScript on micros.

Well, the response wasn't overwhelming :-), but here are the results:

PostScript is not being used on anything except PCs and Macs!

I would be very happy if someone could refute this since I found it dis-
appointing.

Sincerely,
A. Remy Malan

P.S. My thanks to Dave Farber, Glen Foster, and Ed Tankus.
P.P.S Our news feed was down for a couple of days so I apologize if this
came by before. (We don't know what made it out during that time.)

Just for your info:

Scribe (a large scale text processing system that is very well thought
of) is capable of both generating postscript output and including
postscript documents in Scribe documents. Scribe runs on everything
from DECSYSTEM 20s to VAXes to Suns to mainframes.

Also Interleaf (a major WYSIWYG publishing package) has just announced
Postscript support.

QMS, a major maker of laser printers for mainframes, now supports
Postscript as their preferred interface.

There are lots more examples that I can't pull of the top of my head
at the moment. However, from what I know at BBN, Postscript is likely
to become THE standard in the publishing world.

                      ^^^^^^^^^

QMS supports Postscript, but their preferred interface is QUIC (their own
proprietary language). My source? QMS (the company I work for is a
value-added reseller for their machines).

Just thought I'd set the record straight.
