Does anyone have a source (or a script) that translates Word Perfect documents (version 5.1 or 4.2) into plain ASCII (or LATEX)? I brought several documents with me written in Word Perfect and no one here is using it so I can't read them any more.

There is a wp2latex (for wp5.0/1) program in our archives:
How to get wp2latex.arc from the archive at
Dept. of Computer Science, Utrecht University:
NOTE: In the following I have assumed your mail address is john@highbrow.edu.
Of course you must substitute your own address for this. This should be
a valid internet or uucp address. For bitnet users name@host.BITNET
usually works.
by FTP: (please restrict access to weekends or evening/night (i.e. between
about 20.00 and 0900 UTC).
ftp archive.cs.ruu.nl [131.211.80.5]
user name: anonymous or ftp
password: your own email address (e.g. john@highbrow.edu)
cd /pub
don't forget to set binary mode if the file is a tar/arc/zoo archive,
compressed or in any other way contains binary data.
get TEX/TOOLS/wp2latex.arc
by mail-server:
send the following message to
mail-server@cs.ruu.nl (or uunet!mcsun!hp4nl!ruuinf!mail-server):
begin
path john@highbrow.edu (PLEASE SUBSTITUTE *YOUR* ADDRESS)
send TEX/TOOLS/wp2latex.arc
end
NOTE: *** PLEASE USE VALID INTERNET ADDRESSES IF POSSIBLE. DO NOT USE
ADDRESSES WITH ! and @ MIXED !!!! BITNETTERS USE USER@HOST.BITNET ***
The path command can be deleted if we receive a valid from address in your
message. If this is the first time you use our mail server, we suggest you
first issue the request:

Piet van Oostrum says they have a wp2latex converter in their archives (University of Utrecht). Here is what I found thanks to many useful hints: From lut.fi by anonymous ftp wp2latex.lzh from suphys.physics.su.oz.au wp2latex sources in C and Pascal (including makefile and .doc). I tried the latter one and it is working well on wp51 documents! Some features of wp are not converted such as: - margin settings - newspaper style columns - line spacing - top and bottom margins - index - references - end-notes - table of contents - graphical images In particular for publications written in wp51 it is annoying that references are not converted. Second: these sources originate from the University of Eindhoven (Ron Helwig, rcronh@urc.tue.nl) so I have a feeling that the source of Piet van Oostrum might be the same as this one.
