[net.micro] Resident programs in High Level Langs

lee@A60.UUCP (G. Lee) (10/31/86)

Does anyone have any experience writing a resident program on the PC
in a language other than Assembly. I've had limited success writing SMALL
ones in Turbo Pascal but even to make those work I have to lie to DOS and
tell him my program is about 20K longer than it really is. Please don't
flood me with responses about doing this with ASSEMBLY!!!!
 I'm only
interested in doing this with TURBO PASCAL or LATTICE-C.
Also are there special things to watch out for when doing higher level
functions such as Disk IO, etc.
Thanks in advance for GOOD advice

 Gene

The STAYRES or TSR packages available in the public domain (or shareware)
are examples of Turbo Pascal programs which terminate and stay resident.
You can probably find them on local bboards. Simtel-20 has them in
PD:<MSDOS.SYSTEM-UTIL>, available by anonymous FTP for those on the
ARPANET.
