Most email systems are not able to handle 8-bit character sets. Is there a ISO-standard that defines a 7-bit coding scheme for 8-bit character codes?

X.400 (ISO MOTIS MHS) handles 8bit data so ISO does not perceive a problem with the "otherworld" of 7bit mail systems. ...\Stef
