Hi...

Upon Bob's request, I would like to take a normal procedure in order
to create a new newsgroup "comp.protocols.iso.migration" so that nobody can
bother existing newsgroup either "comp.protocols.iso" or "comp.protocols.
tcp-ip" any more.

First of all, this new newsgroup can be grouped by anybody who is
interested in migration/transition to OSI. You may discuss any technical
or non-technical issues on any protocols/strategies which might be helpful
to migrate/transit to OSI world. Here are about 40 persons who responded to
my postings so far. I would like to vote whether we need to create such a new
newsgroup. Please vote, and e-mail either me or post temporarily at
"comp.protocols.iso", NOT at "comp.protocols.tcp-ip". After I collect those
info, I will re-post the result at both "comp.protocols.iso" and
"comp.protocols.tcp-ip". Here is the mailing list, and if you are interested
in joining this new newsgroup, please vote.

Thanks, Bob... and, from my previous postings, I would like to
apologize to some persons, if they felt hurt from me. I am sure this new
newsgroup will resolve our networking future, and will give us a right
direction. Thanks.

stef@BRL.MIL (Einar Stefferud, Consultant|mike) (06/13/90)

I note that you have included me twice in your "mailinglist".

Did you count me as for or against a new list?

To make sure you have me recorded correctly, I am
stef@nrtc.northrop.com, inspite of now apperaing to be stef@brl.mil.

Also, you should record me a wanting to keep the discussion in
ISO.NIC.DDN.MIL and not to create Yet Another New Group and Mailinglist!

What I fear is that we will just wind up sending copies to both the ISO
list and the new TRANSITON list, so we will have lots of duplicate mail
if we are on both. Best...\Stef

kwang@infmx.UUCP (Kwang Sung) (06/14/90)

Dear Mr. Bob Sutterfield:

Now I would like to finalize my proposal on creation of a new
newsgroup "comp.protocols.iso.migration".

Here is a list of all persons who have responded to my postings
so far as of 11:00 PST, June 13, 1990. They voted with a serious mind.
I've collected the info to make a decision for all of us.

Obviously, majority wanted to create such a newsgroup on USENET.
Among 54, 30 said "Yes", 17 said "No", and 7 were not clear.

Since there are many companies who are interested in migration/
transition to OSI without having Internet connection, I proposed such a
newsgroup on USENET. I hope we can have always close relationships with
already existing groups such as X3S3.3 (the ANSI group for network and
transport layers), IETF-OSI.

This new newsgroup will discuss any technical or non-technical
issues on any protocols/strategies even besides TCP/IP which might be
helpful to migrate/transit to OSI world.

As I've mentioned earlier, I am sure this newsgroup will resolve
our networking future, and will give us a right direction to OSI.

So, could you create a new newsgroup "comp.protocols.iso.migration"
as soon as possible so that we can discuss seriously and aggressively,
and nobody can bother either "comp.protocols.iso" or "comp.protocols.tcp-ip"
any more ??

Thank you for your help !!

I agree with Stef.
My vote was not for, but if you choose to move some of the ISO
discussions to another list, I would like to also receive the
postings on that list.

Please correct my vote.

I think this may have been proper procedure in 1982.

Bother the people directly involved in this issue?

Persons who have responded to my proposal so far:
   [list deleted]

This is ridiculous. Comp.protocols.iso *maybe* had about two articles
a day in it before this "proposal" came up, and it jumped to a
whopping five after that. I see *no reason* for the creation of a new
newsgroup, especially since the normal procedures for group creation
have been disregarded, or garbled at best.

Kwang: read news.announce.newusers. I think you would probably
realize from there that there is *no need* for an ISO migration group;
relevant articles can just be crossposted to
comp.protocols.{iso,tcp-ip}.
