The COS Interoperability Research Program announces the availability (via OSINET) of an experimental tool for stressing the ASN.1 BER decoding capabilities of the presentation layer. The initial prototype (written for FTAM), known as the Knowledge Based Encoding Analyzer and Relay (KBEAR), is positioned as a presentation layer relay between FTAM initiators and responders. KBEAR intercepts and modifies the encoding of Presentation, ACSE, and FTAM protocol data units without changing the protocol semantics. The modification of the encodings is either controlled, to mimic the encoding characteristics of other known implementations, or random, to provide a sampling of all legal encoding possibilities. Free access to the service, which is intended to aid product development and interoperability testing, is available to all interested parties, with full support extended to COS members. If you wish to be included in a forthcoming mailing, which will describe how to access the KBEAR server using OSINET, just send me: your name organization street address Phone # email address Steve Castro (703) 883-2806 skc@cos.com (or try uunet!cos!skc)
