I've heard a rumor that one of UI or USL have rejected JAXI as the network interface of choice for X.25. Can anyone confirm, deny or elaborate on this? Frank Bieser (frankb@hal.com)

I can't speak for UI, but I know they were looking at both AT&T's JAXI and at Spider's XPI. I evaluated both, and found them both severely wanting. Both are far too inflexible (X.25 may be mature, but it's hardly cast in stone; neither could support X.25(88) without some structural changes). Both have inadaquate error recovery. XPI is particularly bad at failing to isolate the application from network quirks, like Reset and Clear collisions. If forced to one or the other, though, I'd chose XPI; it at least anticipated new facilities. <csg>
