A little while ago I asked if anybody were interested in why and how we at Dryden instrument our research aircraft. In the face of an overwhelming demand that I tell you about this (hey, almost a dozen people said "sure, why not?" :-) ) I'm putting together a brief account. I'll post this to sci.aeronautics and rec.aviation. I think that this will assure the best distribution. If I'm wrong, I'm entirely certain that someone will point that out. (Flight suits are Nomex for good reason!) The subject line for all portions will be "Research Aircraft Instrumentation ..." to make it easy to avoid. If this works out well, I'll then post a similiar series on how to plan a flight test program. -- Mary Shafer shafer@elxsi.dfrf.nasa.gov ames!elxsi.dfrf.nasa.gov!shafer NASA Ames-Dryden Flight Research Facility, Edwards, CA Of course I don't speak for NASA

Mary Shafer called this morning to say that she'd expect some response to her instrumentation postings, and that the NASA folks expect to be off the net for perhaps a week. Their network access goes through Moffett, which apparently didn't emerge unscathed after the earthquake. Until they're back on the net, I can serve as a "phone net" gateway to Mary. Naturally, articles to follow Part 1 will be delayed a bit. ---------------- Paul Raveling Raveling@isi.edu
