A couple of recent postings have concerned references for multilingual text processing. The following are some additional references. These may be a bit harder to find, but contain a lot of useful material. A) Proceedings of the International Conferences on Text Processing Systems (PROTEXT I, II, III, IV). Available from Boole Press Limited, P.O. Box 5, Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin, Ireland. From PROTEXT I (1984): Griffin, Catherine. Typesetting exotic languages at Oxford University. pp. 133-144. Musa, F.A. A System for generating mixed Latin and non- Latin Script. pp. 187-195. From PROTEXT IV (1987): MacKay, Pierre. A Multilingual Editor Based on GNU Emacs and TeX. pp. 40-51. B) Proceedings of the TeX Users Group Ninth Annual Meeting, Montreal, 1988. Available from TeX Users Group, P.O. Box 9506, Providence, R.I. 02940. Ferguson, Michael. TeX is Multilingual. pp. 179-188. From TRON Project 1988: Myers, R.T., and Sakamura, Ken. Natural Language Translation Services in BTRON. pp. 93-108. All of these refererences concern the problems of handling multiple languages in a single document. The same sources have a number of other interesting papers, including discussions of handling various specific languages and alphabets.
