NOTES

1. maru18.bdf is version 1.3 and maru16.bdf is generated from maru18.bdf.
   kanji16.bdf is generated from kanji18.bdf.

2. The EUC encoded fonts Jming16.bdf and Jsong24.bdf DO NOT conform to
JIS X0208. Nemacs (Nihongo Emacs), kterm 4.1.1, and kinput with the
EUC encoding patch can use these fonts. To make them conform to
JIS X0208, modify the "ENCODING" entry for each character in the BDF
files by subtracting 0x8080 hexadecimal or 32896 decimal from the
   value already there.

Jming16.bdf and Jsong24.bdf came with the X11R4 distribution, so
they could already be on your system. They are located in the
   [X11R4 source directory]/contrib/clients/mlx/ subdirectory.

3. To unpack japanese-fonts.tar:

Make a directory to hold the fonts and cd to that directory

To extract all files into the current directory:

      "tar xvf japanese-fonts.tar"

To extract a single file into the current directory:

      "tar xvf japanese-fonts.tar maru14.bdf.Z"

To uncompress all fonts in the current directory:

      "uncompress *.Z"

To uncompress a single font in the current directory:

      "uncompress maru14.bdf.Z"

4. Don't forget to transfer them in binary mode!
