These are the positions that ATS is actively seeking people for: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- C LANGUAGE PROGRAMMERS Automation Tooling Systems requires experienced C language programmers to develop software modules for our customers. Typical projects include: * Interfaces to industrial robots. * Interfaces to automation equipment such as high speed IC placement machines. * Communication gateways to mini and mainframe computers. * Drivers for protocols such as TCP/IP. * Development of specialized languages for automation, including rule based languages. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED EDUCATION * A degree in Computer Science plus two years of experience, or: * A degree in Engineering, Physics or other science discipline plus five years of software development experience in a high level language such as "C" or Pascal. Non-degree candidates will be required to demonstrate their software development ability. EXPERIENCE No specific work related experience is required, however the following types of experience are advantageous. * On-the-job experience with the "C" language and UNIX or QNX operating systems. * Experience with communications protocols and/or exposure to the OSI model. * Real-time programming experience in electro or electro/mechanical systems involving hardware peripherals. * Work in a related field such as automation, or process control. A strong manufacturing engineering background is an asset. About ATS Automation Tooling Systems is Canada's largest robotics systems house. At ATS you'll work side by side with our professional programmers to develop robotic based applications for our customers. Our customer base includes many Fortune 100 companies. We presently have a staff of 30 professional programmers. Our development environment consists of a 70 node QNX local area network, and a DEC VAX mini-computer. The city of Waterloo boasts two universities, one of which is known world wide for its work in software development. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATORS We require experienced programmers to identify and develop specialized software tools for our in-house and field users. Additionally, candidates will be required to assist in the support of our local area network and mini-computer based systems. Systems include a 70 node QNX local area network, and a DEC VAX mini-computer. Software Tool Development Examples of tools already identified, but not yet developed, are: * Electronic conference system. * Fully implemented "help" command. * ARCNET/ETHERNET bridge. * Archive system. * Continuous, realtime, backup system. * UNIX style spelling checker. ATS is committed to the support of its in-house and field users. We have already written over 100 development and user support tools. System Maintenance The position is responsible for the following systems maintenance functions. * Maintain the system's backup facility. * Monitor network performance, correct performance problems. * Install new software packages. * Provide for modem dial-in and dial-out services. * Support wide area network. * Answer questions from developers concerning system usage. Assist developers with system related problems. * Provide for the security of the system. EXPERIENCE Candidates to this position must have a strong background in UNIX or QNX based multi-tasking architectures. Experience in the "C" programming language is also required.
