CELERITY is seeking an experienced software/hardware customer support engineer in the New York metropolitan area, in our office in Saddle Brook, New Jersey. CELERITY is a full-service vendor of technical computing systems. The recent introduction of the CELERITY 6000 departmental supercomputer brings balanced scalar/vector/parallel processing to the workplace. The CELERITY 6000 joins our successful C1200 series, offering a platform of compliance to standards, open architecture, compatibility, connectivity and quality. Major markets for CELERITY systems include computer-aided engineering (CAE), database systems, image processing and animation, and computational time-sharing. With the expansion of opportunities in these markets, CELERITY offers exciting opportunities for career development. Responsibilities for CELERITY customer support engineers include hardware and software service (diagnosis, problem isolation and repair, software problem-solving and escalation, new user training, and general consultation). The following qualities are essential: - Familiarity with UNIX and C: CELERITY systems run an implementation based on 4.3BSD, plus offer compliance with the Base Level of the System V Interface Definition (SVID), as well as Sun Open Network Computing (NFS, RPC, YP) capabilities - Ability to work in a customer-oriented environment. Excellent interpersonal skills, a service-based work philosophy, and willingness to "get the job done" are essential. Additionally, the following skills would be significant pluses: - Background in mechanical CAE - Knowledge of FORTRAN, Pascal, and/or LISP - Familiarity with database, image processing, animation, or other compute-intensive markets and their systems needs - Experience with hardware diagnostics and installation, including central systems and peripherals Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree and three or more years of work history in an appropriate field, or equivalent experience. Work experience in a vendor's product support environment is a plus. Some travel is required. Also, please note that this is *not* a hardware or software development position.
