[misc.jobs.offered] Summer Opportunities

slj@myrias.UUCP (Shirley Jamieson) (02/19/88)

WANTED: 3rd and 4th year students eligible to receive NSERC Industrial
	Undergraduate Student Research Awards.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

We have several summer positions open which could be filled by
undergraduate students with NSERC Industrial Undergraduate Student
Research Awards. They all require considerable programming
expertise. All positions are in Edmonton, Alberta.

THE COMPANY:

Myrias builds parallel processors with supercomputer performance.
Making our system easy to use is of critical concern to us, but so is
performance. We have a prototype system in our lab today, and it
runs. It is not a small prototype. Indeed, its 512 processors and
256 Mbytes of memory make it the largest parallel processor in
Canada. In the arena of medium grained parallel computers it is one
of the largest systems in the world.

We built the hardware, but we also built the software. Running on
the prototype is state-of-the-art operating software. Software that
makes parallel processing easily available to application
programmers. Software that implements solutions, to what much of the
world still thinks to be open research problems. We'll ship the
results of one-half million lines of Myrias developed software with
our first product. It is high quality software, and a high quality
product. In the world of software developers there are 1's and there
are 10's and lots in between - we hire the 10's. Do think you are up
to the challenge?

We've done the research, we've done most of the development. Now it
is time to make sure that everything is production quality so that we
can ship systems to customers.

THE CANDIDATES:

considered if they can demonstrate significant computer and
programming knowledge. Applicants must be eligible to receive the
NSERC Research Award. Strong programming ability is essential. As
you might expect we would prefer a strong operating systems
background for work in the OS group, a strong compiler construction
or OS background for work in the SW Test group and a strong numerical
analysis background for the Applications group.
