                   DATA COMMUNICATIONS ANALYST

                      $3006 - $3624 / month
                     $36072 - $43488 / year

Full-time permanent position.  Responsible for the development of 
advanced  networking  applications  to  include  several  network 
mediums,  such as bi-directional coaxial cable, optical fiber and 
twisted pair. The network applications will span the area from PC 
subnetworks  to  wide-area networks and include  interoperability 
between a variety of normally incompatible processors,  operating 
systems  and LAN hardware.  In addition,  the incumbent  provides 
technical  guidance and support to the computing  user  community 
regarding  procurement of communications and computer  resources, 
administrative   policies  and  practices,   operation  of  state 
agencies,  and prepares reports containing technical analyses and 
recommendations;   provides  consultive  services  to  University 
officials and does other work as required.

Qualifications:   Thorough   knowledge   of   broadband   network 
technology,   ethernet,   microcomputer  and  workstation   LANS. 
Equivalent  to four years of progressively responsible experience 
in  the development of complex data  communications  systems,  to 
include analysis,  evaluation,  coordination, and maintenance. An 
advanced   degree   in  Electrical  Engineering  or   equivalent. 
Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for up to two 
years  of  the  required  education  on  a  year-for-year  basis. 
Knowledge  of software communication protocols  including  TCP/IP 
and  NFS.  Ability to perform network planning to include design, 
integration,  management and documentation. Skilled at diagnostic 
and troubleshooting techniques to determine technical problems in 
existing networks.  Ability to detect and analyze  administrative 
and  technical  problems  and make  appropriate  decisions;  work 
cooperatively  with representatives of other  departments;  write 
clearly and effectively;  analyze complex interrelated situations 
and  adopt effective course of action.  Communication  skills  to 
convey technical data to experts and novices.
