The Institute of Cognitive Science and the Departments of Computer Science and
Psychology at the University of Colorado have recently been awarded a major
grant from the National Science Foundation. The grant is an interdisciplinary
group grant with four principal investigators (Fischer and Lewis of Computer
Science and Kintsch and Polson of Psychology). The major research topic of the
grant is the development of "Design Principles for Comprehensible Systems" by
combining innovative system design and cognitive theory.

This grant has two post-doctoral positions that are available immediately for a
three-year period. Subject to qualifications, applicants can be appointed as
research assistant professors at the University of Colorado. One position is
oriented towards innovative system design and one towards cognitive theory
development. Applicants are expected to have a real interest in
interdisciplinary work.

CU Boulder offers an exciting intellectual environment to pursue these research
issues. A first-class computational environment (e.g. a large number of high
performance work stations) is available.

Applications should be sent to: Francesca Iovine, Department of Computer
Science, Campus Box 430, University, Boulder, CO 803030-430.
