SUN IS LOOKING FOR A UNIX/DBMS PERFORMANCE EXPERT

The Database Engineering Group at Sun Microsystems in Mountain View,
California is looking for an experienced engineer to measure, analyze, and 
improve DBMS performance on Sun hardware and software.  This would involve
providing recommendations to DBMS vendors (Informix, Ingres, Oracle,
Sybase, etc.) and Sun hardware/software architects to improve overall 
performance.  It will also involve the development and execution of
performance tests along with prototyping software improvements to the DBMS
products and SunOS.  This position will be very challenging.  Sun is a
technically advanced company with an excellent engineering environment plus
we have excellent technical relationships with the leading DBMS developers. 

The desired education would be a BSCS, MSCS, or PhDCS.  The desired
experience or knowledge would include several years of relevant work
experience working with some combination of: 1) performance measurement 
and improvement, particularly in C/UNIX, 2) Relational DBMS products, 
particularly knowledge of internal architectures, 3) UNIX and its tools,
particularly shell scripts, the kernel, and device drivers, 4) UNIX system 
management, and 5) computer architectures, particularly memory, caching,
and I/O issues.

The desired skills would include: 1) quantitative, methodical approach,
2) strong curiosity and ability to solve complex problems, 3) ability to
work concurrently on several efforts, and 4) strong communication and 
interpersonal skills.
