Position Announcement Northwestern University Academic Computing and Network Services Advanced Technology Group The Advanced Technology Group of ACNS is charged with exploring new computing technologies and integrating them into the University computing environment. Advanced Technology Group staff members are typically senior programmers experienced on multiple systems, able to work with faculty and researchers on collaborative projects, and intensely interested in the application of new technology to current real world problems. At this time there are two open positions within ATG. Senior Programmer / Analyst specializing in Computer Multimedia This position requires at minimum a 4 year college degree and moderate programming experience using C, Fortran, Pascal, Lisp, SmallTalk, and/or Assembler or other variants on at least one of the following operating systems: Macintosh, MS-DOS, OS/2, and Unix. Media production skills in the areas of video, audio, publishing, and/or film are also needed, as is the ability to initiate, manage, and bring to completion significant projects with faculty members and researchers. Along with participation in projects which explore new computer media technology, this job involves the management of a computer media studio. Experience with any of the following will be very useful: CD-ROM, Videodisc, high resolution image scanners, HyperCard, film recorders, computer animation and paint systems, MIDI, digital audio, NTSC video production, computer graphics workstations, unix system management, and optical data storage. Senior Programmer / Analyst specializing in Unix workstation applications This position requires at minimum a 4 year college degree and strong programming experience using C, Fortran, and/or Assembler or other variants on Unix based workstations. Additional experience with any of the following will be very useful: X11, Motif, NeXT, Mach, Apple A/UX, distributed applications, RPC, NCS, relational and textual databases, computer graphics hardware (e.g. Pixar, Silicon Graphics), computer graphics software standards (e.g. GKS, PHIGS, RenderMan), and object oriented programming. Current application areas of interest include the development of a distributed campus-wide information server, distributed and parallel network applications, software platforms for graphic user interface support, and tools for scientific visualization. Projects will often be collaborative efforts which both explore a new technology and serve the needs of a given faculty or research group.
