The Applied Research Office of the Numerical Aerodynamic Simulation
(NAS) Program at NASA Ames Research Center has open positions in
advanced visualization research in support of NASA's computational
aerodynamics investigations.

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct a program of
personal research and participate with NASA scientists in the
investigation, design, and development of visualization techniques for
advancing the state-of-the-art in scientific computation environments
on current and future supercomputers.

Each researcher in the Applied Research Office is assigned a dedicated
workstation with performance characteristics of at least a Silicon
Graphics IRIS 4D/25 class. Additional research resources in the
Office include a 32K processor Connection Machines CM-2 with two attached
frame buffers, a 128 node i860 Intel hypercube prototype, and
several graphics supercomputers and super-workstations. The parent
organization, the NAS Systems Division, maintains a state of the art,
Unix-based supercomputer center featuring two of the most powerful
supercomputers available (currently a Cray Y-MP and a Cray 2).

Currently, we are interested in candidates with expertise in one or
more of the following areas:

* Volumetric Rendering
* Virtual Environments
* Parallel and Distributed Graphics
* Applications of Computational Geometry
* Field Topology Extraction and Display
* Integrated Visualization Environments for Supercomputing

Qualifications required for the positions include the following:

* An advanced degree in computer science or a related discipline
* Research experience or course work in scientific visualization
* Proficient use of UNIX, FORTRAN, C and/or LISP
* Familiarity with computational physics

Ames is strategically located in Silicon Valley. Candidates must be
U.S. citizens or permanent U. S. residents. Both civil service and
contractor positions are available.

To apply, send a resume, names of three references, a short statement of
