Position: Laboratory Manager of the Five GIS Laboratories, Center for Analysis of Spatial and Temporal Systems (CASTS), University of Southwestern Louisiana, Lafayette, Louisiana. Responsibilities: Set-up and operation of the five satellite GIS laboratories; supervise all operations of the laboratory; evaluate software and hardware systems for feasibility and performance; install commercial software and hardware packages; recover from software crashes; pursue a regular means of communicating with faculty and students about the laboratory and computing developments; develop and conduct training sessions for faculty and staff. Qualifications: Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering; ability to patch and enhance current GIS software; ability to write programs in Fortran and C languages; knowledge of UNIX, DOS and IBM operating systems. Experience with GIS and Image Processing software and two to five years of successful experience in an appropriate field desired. Administrative The University of Southwestern Louisiana is one of nine Unit: publicly supported universities governed by the Louisiana State Board of Trustees. In consists of ten degree granting units: The Colleges of Agriculture and Home Economics; Arts, Humanities and Behavioral Sciences; Business Administration; Education; Engineering; General Studies; Nursing; Biological, Mathematical and Physical Sciences; The Graduate School; and the School of Art and Architecture. The University has an enrollment of 15,000 students with a faculty of 675. The University offers undergraduate degrees in 39 disciplines, the masters degree in 27 disciplines, the educational specialist in 2 disciplines, and the doctorate in 6 disciplines. The Center for Analysis of Spatial and Temporal Systems (CASTS) conducts a variety of research, development, and technology transfer activities in geographic information systems (GIS) and its related areas such as land information system (LIS), automated mapping (AM), facilities management (FM), remote sensing (RS), and global positioning system (GPS). The Center provides service to the university, the community, and the State; and develops affiliations with industry and institutions with similar objectives. The five GIS Laboratories are equipped with 3 AT&T 6386/33 WGS Models and 25 AT&T 6386/25 WGS Models. Salary: Negotiable, depending upon qualifications and experience.
