I know of several efforts to provide user interface toolkits that run on several different platforms (UNIX workstations, IBM PC clones, Macintosh, etc.) and provide a uniform application programming interface. These multi-platforms toolkits are desirable for projects that wish to deliver on multiple platforms with minimum cost. All the toolkits that I know of, however, try to support the same "look and feel" on all platforms. This is often desirable, but on some platforms (especially Macintosh and Presentation Manager), applications may wish to conform to existing "look and feel" standards. Does anyone know of any work (research or commercial) that addresses the platform "look and feel" issue? This type of toolkit is probably much more difficult to implement. Has anyone done it? Please E-mail me any related info. I'll post a summary of the results. Thanks much. Ken Lee -- klee@daisy.uucp Daisy Systems Corp., Interactive Graphics Tools Dept.
