HyperNeWS1.4 from the Turing Institute is now available for public consumption. In case you haven't heard of it before: HyperNeWS is a user interface development system that uses direct manipulation to let you develop interfaces quickly. Some features: - Windows are represented as 'stacks', which consist of any number of 'cards' and 'objects'. - It runs on Sun-3 and Sun-4 machines under OpenWindows2.0. - HyperNeWS stacks can have their own scripts or can be driven by client programs written in C, Prolog, or Lisp. - It has a set of default objects (like menus and scrollable windows) that you can copy & paste into your interfaces. - It will read stacks and drawings created in release 1.3. - HyperNeWS is free for use in personal, research, or academic endeavors. For commercial use, please contact the Institute. - It is an example of what NeWS is capable of. You can obtain your own personal copy of HyperNeWS from these anonymous FTP sites. Don't forget to set binary mode!! Internet: tumtum.cs.umd.edu (U.S.) lth.se (Sweden) UUCP: uunet.uu.net (U.S.) It is also available via mail server in the U.K. At minimal cost you can get hardcopy manuals and HyperNeWS on 3.5" floppy or cartridge tape.
