I just received the product briefs on the new Apollo "desktop"
workstation (DN300) and peripheral server (DSP80). The worksta-
tion is still in beta test so I haven't had a chance to see one
yet.
1. _D_N_3_0_0__f_e_a_t_u_r_e_s.
1024 x 800 pixel display orientation Landscape.
Screen size 17" diag.
Maximum memory 1.5Mb.
Floating-point cache board None, yet.
34 Mb winchester w/ 1.2 Mb floppy Optional.
Mult*bus cage None.
Price w/o disk unit $12,900.
Price with disk unit $21,000.
The other features are identical to the old DN420's (which I
won't go into). The optional disk unit fits under a table.
2. _P_e_r_i_p_h_e_r_a_l__s_e_r_v_e_r_s. DSP80s can be added to Apollo's ring net
to perform file server, gateway and printer server functions.
It appears to be a DN420 minus the keyboard, display, disks,
and graphics/floating-point boards. It still retains the
processor, memory and the 5-slot Mult*bus card cage, and it
supports all the peripherals that the old DN420's do. Cost
of a the DSP80 without peripherals is $7000.
Looks like Apollo may become more competitive with Sun, especial-
ly now that Apollo can emulate UN*X environments (via AUX) in any
of its process windows.
